BURN THE TAPE: Mighty Ducks Episode 7
Six Emilio Estevez plus one Emilio Estevez equals seven Emilio Estevez
It’s Sunday! Time for another episode of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. I’m more hype today than in the last episode. Emilio Estevez will be an assistant coach, it’s been raining all morning which is the perfect “stay at home and watch the Mighty Ducks” weather, I put on my oversized Mighty Ducks sweater to get in the spirits. I’m feeling good about this episode.
Also, we’ve got a twist in this series. My sister and her ex-boyfriend are still talking and are still friends? So I guess he actually may know I’m still using his Disney Plus account and is just perfectly fine with it. How’s that for an M. Night Shyamalan twist?
Let’s recap: The Ducks are good, Alex and Emilio Estevez are gonna fuck VERY soon, Emilio Estevez will now be joining as an assistant coach, Evan joined one practice with the Ducks and the rest of the team is mad at him now.
Episode 7: Pond Hockey
The team is still mad at Evan so Alex locks them all in a locker room to try and make up. It doesn’t work and now they’re all fighting.
The fuse box went out and they can’t figure out how to get it back on. Alex wants to just cancel practice but Emilio Estevez has another idea. In case you couldn’t tell by the title of the show, they’re going to a frozen pond to play.
There’s this old hockey drill to help have “soft hands” by practicing passing using an egg. But Emilio Estevez says, “I think you care more about these” and uses their phones instead. Now that’s bringing this into the 21st century! [Ed. note: Okay so the egg passing drill is not an old hockey drill. Literally no one has ever done it. It's a callback to the first Mighty Ducks movie where Bombay did the egg thing to get the Ducks to have soft hands]
The rest of the team is still mad at Evan so he rips his “C” off his jersey. Didn’t realize it was that easy, but alright. They all forgive him now I guess. Sofi is still mad at him though.
Evan gets Sofi a knee-compression sleeve and she forgives him now.
Alright so during practice on the pond, Alex made them all wear blindfolds so they can “feel” it. It turned out horrible. But Emilio convinced her she’s an excellent coach before their game started and now their final play of the game to try and win, they’re all going to close their eyes? The other team isn’t even going after the puck? What is going on?
I mean I guess it worked because they scored with like a second left and won the game. I’m not really sure how that worked????
Recap/thoughts
So, I’m a fucking liar. “I’m feeling good about this episode.” God, I’m SO naive and stupid. This episode kind of sucked. What even happened? Nothing really? They could have not even had this episode and the next episode would have needed zero explaining because nothing happened.
Alex and Emilio are no closer to fucking than they were in the last episode. UGH. Just all around so pointless. I think I’m mainly annoyed because I was so excited at the start of this episode. I was feeling hyped up, I was feeling good. This should teach you to never have high hopes for anything.
